Earlier this week a client sent me this Entrepreneur article, titled Everyone Wants Meaningful Work, But What Does That Look Like? It’s one of the best and most comprehensive articles I’ve read about the meaning of work. It charts how we came to value meaningful work in this country, outlines the evolution of research on the topic since the 1970s and captures the complexity all of us (and organizations) feel trying to wrap our arms around the question. For those of us who live at the intersection of work and human behavior, there’s so much great research and food for thought here. I especially connected to Bailey and Madden’s “meaningfulness ecosystem” and thought the parallel between meaningful work and the personalization of customer service over the past twenty years was right on. Hope you get as much out of it as I did. |
